The Truth about ProAmerica Companies and David Marlett

March 6th, 2008

David Marlett I initially supported David Marlett and ProAmerica Companies and I added my consulting business to the early list of companies who pledged not to hire illegal aliens. Then I started to see some troubling things coming from David Marlett. In August, he seemingly attempted to sabotage a Voice of the People USA rally set for Harrisburg and he did so by making a big splashy statement about not participating in the rally because there were racists speaking. Later he retracted this but he had already done damage, which I believe was his intention. The Harrisburg rally was not as big as it could have been and I believe it was due to the sabotage by David Marlett.

After that and after others in this movement seemed to agree with that assessment, I stopped being part of ProAmerica Companies and essentially cut David Marlett off by not responding.

This Press Release is his final attempt to do damage to our movement. But now he will be outed as the saboteur he really is. The truth is, he lost support because we figured out that he was a rat, not because any of the companies he approached were lazy or refused to not hire illegal aliens. That is a bunch of CRAP because most of the companies who signed on were very small companies and many did not even HAVE employees!

A little digging into David Marlett’s history found that he is politically connected in Texas and was accused of doing something not so honest. The details escape me now and perhaps I will try to dig it up and link it, just to prove my point. What I read helped me tie together the actions of David Marlett in the present day and realize his true intentions may not have been so pure. It’s sad to see such people trying to masquerade as true patriots but we have Benedict Arnolds even today it seems.

Here is what William Gheen had to say about David Marlett and his “press release ”

Allied Immigration Enforcement Leaders:

I wanted to drop all of you a quick note with some new information of importance.

From time to time, ALIPAC has issued warnings to our friends about groups or leaders that were up to no good in our movement. While we have illustrated our desire for peace and cooperation among patriots, these warnings have been necessary for the betterment of our movement.

With each warning issued, there have been the standard replies of ‘I don’t want to hear that.” and “Let’s stop the infighting” and “We should all get along.” from a few people.

While I share those sentiments, we must also acknowledge that our movement is wide open to exploitation if we are unwilling to reveal the truth about some groups or individuals.

Today, I want to update you with an example.

On Friday August 31, 2007

I issued a warning to all of you titled

Urgent Warning to ALL immigration enforcement leaders
copy of message at this link…

http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-80672-david.html+marlett

This warning was issued to you after me, Peter Gadiel of 9/11 Families, Daniel Smeriglio of Voice of the People USA, and John Clark or AIC discovered that a newcomer named David Marlett of Pro America Companies was working with the opposition, using their attack language, and trying to sabatoge events and organizations behind the scenes.

Many of us had signed Marlett’s letter to authorities in New Jersey. This guy made a bee line straight towards the core of our movement where he then proceeded to try and wreak havoc while concealing his true intentions.

Thanks to our efforts to increase communications and cooperation between groups in our movement, we were able to detect what Marlett was doing, put the pieces of the puzzle together and warn each of you.

Most of you stopped responding to Marlett and his efforts failed.

Today, we have the final parting blow from David Marlett. Anyone that started a group or website usually would not press release or broadcast the failure of said group.

David Marlett just took a parting swipe at our movement on his way out of the door.

At this link, you can read the article where he communicates negative messages that his true masters at La Raza certainly enjoy. You can also see my response to the reporter.

For those of you that have expressed doubts about some of our warnings, I hope this will be an important eye opener for you.

We will not issue a warning or alert unless we A. have solid evidence of a significant problem with a leader or group and B. The dangers posed by that person outweigh the complications of issuing an alert.

See for yourselves by reading these…

Site rejecting illegal workers closing, citing lack of support
http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-106430-david.html+marlett

We want to thank all of you that took our warning seriously and responded. More thanks to all of you that are staying in contact with each other, sharing information and ideas, and trying to coordinate.

We already have a national coalition going on due to your efforts and that is helping our movement a great deal.

Yours in the cause,

William Gheen

Here is an example of his continued efforts to undermine the patriotic movement in another news article.

And here is his email to patriots explaining that he was wrong about claiming racists were involved in the Harrisburg rally so you can see how duplicitous he really is.

Here is a more detailed look at the events which clued us in to his true nature - back in August. You will notice that none of US have revealed this information about David Marlett and you will notice that nobody in OUR movement attempted to SMEAR him like he is apparently trying to do to US.

From William Gheen in August, 2007:

David Marlett pulled out of the Harrisburg rally claiming that several of the speakers lined up to be at the event had ties to racist groups including the MC. When Dan called me about this, I also discovered that Marlett was also claiming that ALIPAC was racist because we covered topics involving crimes by illegal aliens and disease rates.

I was very shocked to hear that on one hand he was asking me for all this help and asking me to meet with him and support him, while singing a completely different tune to other leaders I work with in this movement behind my back.

The other shocking turn of events was when his e-mail to Voice of the People claiming that the Master of Ceremonies and other speakers at this event had ties to racist groups quickly showed up on a pro-illegal alien opposition website called One People’s Project. All of the speakers lined up for Harrisburg are NOT RACIST and have been carefully screened and checked out by many people involved with the event.

Dan confronted him about this and Marlett claimed he had sent copies of the email to Dan, Col. Rodrigez, and Peter Gadiel and perhaps one of them leaked it to the opposition group! This is a ridiculous claim from what I know of these men and their loyalty to our cause.

Then the email was removed from the opposition site and Marlett told Dan that he had asked them to take it down and they did.

I have never seen a group leader’s e-mail to a handful of other leaders go up on an opposition website before. I have also never seen an opposition website ever remove anything at the request of one of our groups.

I politely confronted Mr. Marlett in an e-mail. I told him that ALIPAC makes every effort to avoid groups with racist connections and to please provide me with the list of speakers he believed had racist connections, his evidence, his source, and an explanation about how his e-mail with broad accusations of racism in our movement quickly went up
on an opposition website and then came back down upon his request.

He did issue an apology to John Clark of AIC who is the Master of Ceremonies and claimed his information about him was wrong, but in his emails to me he refused to provide any other names, evidence, or sources.

In his e-mail response, admits he is in collusion with One People’s Project and even La
Raza despite the fact he has made several statements criticizing La Raza.

This is not a case of leader announcing that they seek a dialogue with the opposition as some of us have done. This is a case of leader admitting ties to opposition groups after being cornered about leaking a hostile email to our opposition that contained unsubstantiated claims of racist affiliations.

The attempted sabotage has gotten worse. Someone called the wife of a Congressman from Georgia who was scheduled to speak at the Harrisburg event. The caller told his wife that many of the other speakers at this event had ties to racist groups and that ’someone’ had pulled out. The Congressman and his wife considered some of the language threatening and have contacted the FBI to investigate the caller. The Congressman did not show. The language in many of Marlett’s emails
hints at his believe he has sway over lawmakers that will not support events if
he does not.

There are more than five leaders close to this problem. Me, Dan Smeriglio (Voice of the People), Peter Gadiel (9/11 FSA), John Clark (AIC), and Ron Bass (United Patriots) all have been observing this situation. All arrows point to David Marlett of Pro American Companies as the source of these false accusations, leaks, and attempts to sabotage the Harrisburg event.

We have a man here who is trying his best to get in close to as many of the leaders in our movement as possible, who is making false accusations of racism within our movement, while both admitting to and illustrating his close ties with pro illegal alien opposition groups!

I am sending this e-mail to warn my fellow leaders that are committed to this cause so that you can hopefully avoid the difficulties that others are experiencing with David Marlett of Pro American Companies.

Dan Smeriglio of Voice of the People and I both stand ready to speak with you by phone or to answer any questions about this matter if it will help you in making determinations that are best for your organization and our movement’s success.

Yours in the cause,
William Gheen

Want more evidence? Here is an email exchange between one of the early companies who joined ProAmerica Companies and David Marlett after his most recent mea culpa email to all the “members” that ProAmerica Companies was “too expensive” to maintain. This shows that his true intention of ProAmerica Companies was not “for the cause” at all.

Hello David,

I would be glad to take over “Pro America Companies” and everything else you have set up and carry on the mission. Let me know if this interests you.

Thank you for the kind offer.

To keep the interactive database operational, it costs right at $100 per month. To do any growth and promotion, it costs significantly more…well into the thousands last year for me. If someone wanted to make a significant contribution to fund operations for a year, I would consider keeping it alive in its present form. Otherwise, it is ‘pushing a string uphill’ and not very effective at that.

I suggest turning it over to someone else then and allow them to “push the string”. After all, it is all about the “cause” is it not?

I am interested in aiding new approaches and compromises that lead to solutions.
But not hardlined approaches — those are costing our “cause” to lose everything.

If someone can demonstrate the time and financial resources, and an aggressiveness to find real solutions, I welcome those discussions.

Let’s not quarrel.
When I spoke of solutions, I was speaking about solutions to the national problem.
As for ’solutions’ to keeping ProAmerica alive, I have said my thoughts on it: the new leaders would have to show sufficient financial ability, and demonstrate/explain a national campaign and advocate a national solution that I was comfortable with.

I don’t waste my time quarrelling with people. Obviously your way doesn’t work, face it. So if you are really as concerned with the “cause” as you profess, you need to lose the ego and stop with the BS. Actions ALWAYS speak louder than words.

Hall denies challenger’s allegations

By JANELLE STECKLEIN
Herald-Banner Staff

A candidate running for U.S. Congress has alleged that longtime incumbent Congressman Ralph Hall has been paid to cover up child prostitution and forced abortions — a charge which Hall vigorously denies.

Glenn Melancon, D-Sherman, also accuses Hall of publicly attacking a rape victim.

A postcard being distributed by the Melancon campaign reads: “When investigators discovered child prostitution and forced abortions on the Mariana Islands, Congressman Ralph Hall was paid for covering it up and publicly attacking one of the raped children.”

The postcard then directs people to view a Web site that repeats the allegations with more detail.

The Mariana Islands, which are a commonwealth of the United States, are located in the Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and the Phililpines.

Hall, who has served the 4th district in Congress since 1980, called the attack “pitiful” and said he’s never publicly attacked one of the raped children.

“I feel storry for anyone who wants to be elected bad enough to defile someone’s character,” he said. “That’s an outright lie.”

Melancon says all the allegations are completely true.

“If it weren’t true, then we wouldn’t be saying it,” he said.

Both Melancon and his campaign manager, David Marlett, however, said the postcard is not a personal attack on Hall’s character.

“We’re not attacking him personally,” Marlett said, “We are attacking his policy decisions. We never intended to run a negative campaign.”

Marlett said he’s sad and embarrassed by Hall’s actions.

“We actually come into this with a heavy heart,” he said. “We weren’t hoping for this, we weren’t looking for it. It’s sad, and it’s gross. It’s embarassing.”

Hall says the Web site, which Melancon’s campaign said it backs, alleges that Hall has known that forced abortions, sex slavery, and sweatshops existed for years in the Mariana’s Islands, but never did anything.

Hall says yes he visited the islands 10 years ago, but he did not visit the islands in order to examine prostitution or other state rights. He went there at a request from various high-ranking members of the U.S. government regarding government strategy in the Pacific Rim region. He said he toured some factories and had a meeting with the governor.

“I have never been in one of the bordellos,” he said. “I had my wife with me (during the trip).”

He also says the Web site does not tell the whole story. He said in several speeches cited on the site, parts of the speeches he gave have been removed, and not in his favor.

“Anyone who knows me and knows my record, knows these allegations are untrue.”

Melancon has also alleged that Hall has accepted dirty campaign contributions from former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who faces charges of conspiracy and money laundering, and Jack Abramoff, who pleaded guilty in January to charges stemming from a public corruption investigation.

Hall said DeLay gave him money 10 years ago — a period of time when DeLay’s campaign contributions have not been questioned. Hall also cautioned that DeLay has still not been tried on the counts.

Hall also said he’s never met Abramoff and wouldn’t recognize him if he saw him.

Here is his original email attempting to undermine the Harrisburg rally:

From: David Marlett [mailto:dmarlett@proamericacompanies.com]
Sent: Monday, August 27, 2007 10:48 AM
To: Dan Smeriglio
Subject: Harrisburg Rally

Dan:

I regretfully must withdraw myself as a speaker at your Harrisburg, PA rally this coming Saturday, Sept. 1.

My reason is that some of the other speakers and the emcee have direct connections and/or membership with groups which have clear supremacist agendas, and groups which though they may not have direct supremacist agendas, do not denounce their historic connections with other groups of that ilk. So, simply said: I don’t want to share a stage with them on this pivotal issue….or any issue for that matter.

Protecting our national sovereignty, preserving the rule of law, protecting American (and legal immigrant) workers….has nothing to do with promoting one race or country or continent of origin, over another. In fact, quite the opposite. ProAmerica works to promote America’s genius, its hope and promise….as established and preserved by our cultural and racial diversity.

It is bad enough that the pro-illegal faction is led by the largest (and publicly funded) racist organizations in America today: La Raza. And the hypocrisy of SPLC for not denouncing La Raza seriously weakens the respectability of the SPLC’s voice in the modern struggles of our day. (Nevertheless, with or without the SPLC’s help, I hold on to the hope that there will come a day when we taxpayers will no longer be funding La Raza to the tune of tens of millions of dollars each year.) Meanwhile we must stand vigilant against any racist or pseudo-racist groups trying to glom onto our positive, Pro-ALL-Americans and Pro-ALL-Legal-Immigrants message.

I wish you well. I hope Voice of the People will overtly distance itself from anyone or any group who will not publicly denounce supremacist or ethnocentric groups or individuals. If you do, then ProAmerica would be more than happy to work with you as we all continue this fight to re-take America from its special interest and mega-corp overlords.

Call me if you want to discuss this.

And here is his bullshit retraction sent out just before the Harrisburg rally and AFTER the damage had already been done:

Ruth:

A week ago or so, I told you I had reason to believe some of the speakers at Harrisburg had ties to white supremacist groups. On Monday I officially declined to speak there on grounds that information. I made the mistake of saying that in an email, which was then leaked to others on the radical other side.

Today I learned how wrong I was about the original information, and I apologized in writing to those I offended.

So, that said, I just want the “rumor mill” to be clear.

I don’t harbor any such direct information about any speaker there, and I regret opening my big mouth to you directly and later in an email about it.

Sometimes I am guilty of being an idiot.

Hopefully not too often, but yes, sometimes.

I hope the rally goes well.

Because America Matters,

I hope this clears up the truth about David Marlett. I sincerely do not like to have to reveal this kind of information, but David Marlett has forced us to do so to defend ourselves. David Marlett is a traitor and nobody in the press should give him a voice.

Are you guys insane? This is slanderous.
Hall is a bad Congressman and we worked hard to expose him. So you copied a newspaper article where he “fought back”…doesn’t make what he said true.

Really…find something better to do than attack someone who worked hard for the cause…though not as radically as some. The more this hateful stuff is published, the more you just reveal how much you don’t know me, and how much you just seem to want someone to attack.

Look at the emails I sent to Maggie that she reposted here. I will continue to be level-headed and reasonable. I have my heart in this movement, for a sane, honorable solution that defends America’s soveriegnty. I am saddened and outraged by what we have allowed to happen in this country regarding illegal immigration.

I tried one way to make a difference. It didn’t work. I hope your ways work.

But please… fight the real enemy….it isn’t some guy from Texas who tried one way, and couldn’t make it work.

By the way, I never had a single conversation with anyone from La Raza….though I would have welcomed a debate with them so long as it was constructive.

Some people like Gheen just love to make crap up.

I wish the movement all the best, and will continue to try to make a difference where I can.

(One way is to unseat my local Congressman who is in bed with Pilgrim’s Pride chicken, etc.)

God bless this country of ours….

And as for the Harrisburg Rally….I turned out to be right…just look a the pictures of the rally…the skinheads were out in droves. Congressman Broun reached out to me over it and he and his staff have thanked me numerous times in writing and in person for helping him avoid a very embarrassing situation for him. There are some people in EVERY movement who are so angry that they just can’t seem to see straight. I am not one of them, and really try hard not to associate with them. I was one of the first asked by Smiglio to speak at that rally, and first thought to pull out after Dan called me numerous times complaining of the MC/Organizer…I can’t remember his name. Anyway. I made the right call to back out of it. Don’t listen to Gheen’s lies. Call Congressman Broun’s office if you want the truth. I wish you all well (so long as it is done without hatred).

    Interesting read.
Living on the West coast, I have never had any dealings with Mr. Marlett. And I never will.

My reason for this is Mr. Marlett’s own writing.
    When he says:

“I turned out to be right…just look a the pictures of the rally…the skinheads were out in droves.”

that is nothing more, than our opposition’s “guilt by association” mantra. William Gheen seems to be write about Mr. Marlett’s terminology …

If you have as much as TOUCHED a book on logic, and have at least a SHALLOW undestanding of fallacies, you undestand the true value of, and the intent behind this sort of reasoning.

Amazing, how much ONE SENTENCE can tell you about someone, isn’t it?

  4. comment number 4 by: lobo

Sorry, just a correction to one line of my earlier post:

“William Gheen seems to be right about Mr. Marlett’s terminology …”

And, like Mark Levin would say, “And ANOTHER thing:” reading Mr. Marlett’s post here, I can see how sincere his ealier apologies were … ;-)

  5. comment number 5 by: lobo

To be truthful, there is ONE point, on which I have to agree with Mr. Marlett.

The CALAMITY we are finding ourselves in right now, is of OUR OWN doing. We are giving illegal aliens jobs, care for them, educate their kids, give them drivers licenses, food stamps, Section 8 housing, and so on.

    Well, not all of us.
Wanna know, who, and how many of us?
The ones voting for Obama, Hillary and McCain …

  6. comment number 6 by: Ruthiness

“And as for the Harrisburg Rally….I turned out to be right…just look a the pictures of the rally…the skinheads were out in droves”

More drivel from One People’s Project. Any “skinheads” that attended were free to do so. This was a PUBLIC rally and people, including Daryl from OPP, were not prevented from attending. Because certain people attended does not in ANY way imply that the speakers or organizers share their views.

Whatever you say now David is questionable in it’s sincerity and honesty. Had you not made the stupid move of trying to undermine the Harrisburg rally, perhaps your plan to try to undermine the movement with your appearance of being on our side might have gone on longer than it did.

Your accusations regarding Harrisburg were perfectly timed to DISRUPT the rally. Our movement is better off without friends like you in it. With friends like you who needs enemies?

  7. comment number 7 by: dmarlett

    Please people. Settle down.
Find something better to do with your time that kicking around some rally from 8 months ago. I had no power to disrupt or ruin your rally. You greatly overstate my influence. Just let it go. I tried to make a difference. ProAmerica was and is a great idea, but the average American is asleep on this one, and is not willing to make the choice to do business with a company just because that company pledges to follow the law.
This diatribe you guys are on is just silly.
I am moving on, and I suggest you do to.
You really don’t realize how wrong you are….but apparently that just doesn’t matter.
    David

David Marlett has worked long and hard to raise awareness about the problems created by illegal immigration including national media coverage and grass roots campaigning. Those nipping at his heels with frivolous, unsubstantiated claims would do well to focus your efforts on border security than to aid and abet the proponents of open borders by trying to distract attention from the good work Mr. Marlett is doing.

Instead of ranting about somebody who has worked tirelessly for the cause of border security, we would all be better served if you’d shut up and get back to the business of persuading our politicians to enforce the immigration laws already on the books, in lieu of “immigration reform.”

  9. comment number 9 by: Respect

Are you all sure you are talking about the David Marlett that I know? Bruce (comment #8) describes the real David - a man who worked tirelessly and on his own dime to provide us his excellent website listing companies - at no charge - that would not knowingly hire illegal immigrants. David is about serving us, helping protect our country’s economy and culture and maintaining a high level of professionalism.

We have a choice. We can bicker amongst ourselves or we can get something accomplished. I believe that our time is far to valuable to waste in petty back biting.

If nothing else, closing ProAmerica Companies has helped do two things: spur serious debate, and expose hateful little minds. Sometimes lightening rods like me are good at doing those things. For the ‘movement’ to have any hope of success, both need to happen. If you read the posts here, and on the other sites referenced, like Gheen’s rag and http://www.immigrationwatchdog.com/?p=5988, where I am bizarrely attacked, you can distinguish the narrow-minded hate-talk from the reasoned and the thoughtful. Hopefully that information will be useful to you in how you personally move forward in your activism for this cause, and with whom you listen to and associate with. I am encouraged by supporters from across the country who have written me directly and many who have set the record straight on this and other blogs. I am even more encouraged for our movement by those who have written but don’t know me and don’t necessarily agree with me on everything, but who want to rise above third-grade name calling to discuss serious solutions and issues. That is a cool ‘result’ from the closing of ProAmerica Companies.

Let’s talk briefly about me and ProAmerica. Are you interested in the truth? Can ya handle it? : ) Ok: here goes: I am not going anywhere. I am not ‘going away’. But I simply cannot afford to personally finance a nationwide program. And as some mentioned here or on other blogs, charging for membership just took the heart out of what I was hoping to do. Our board voted to charge membership, and I concurred that that was necessary, but in the end, it was my decision, and I chose not to. ProAmerica Companies was a good ‘idea’, and I put enormous energy into it and so did many others across the country. And many have written me saying that they will continue to support and promote the ProAmerica Oath: “As for me and my family and business, we will honor and protect the United States of America, our integrity, our laws, our heritage and future, and will not knowingly violate that trust for any price, business profit, or personal savings.”

Think what you will of me. If you know me, you may disagree with some things I have said or done, but you know I am a fighter for this movement and my heart and mind are loyal toward finding a solution (not to any particular organization or individual).

My references to “we” being to blame were to the giant collective ‘we’, but I don’t think most of you need me to explain that. I never insinuated that activist were simultaneously breaking the law by hiring illegals. (Really weird how some of you saw yourself in who I was talking about and got personally offended.) The facts are that activists are a TINY TINY percent of the conservative population. And it is those conservatives who are silent for the most part, who can’t get their act together enough to support a candidate who will protect our sovereignty, who yell “no amnesty”….those millions….who simultaneously hire landscaping companies which openly use illegals….they are most to blame. It is just too easy to keep shooting at the liberals and the Democrats, etc. It takes more courage to seek the real problem, to address it, to look for solutions to the conservative hypocrisy first. That is the log in our own eye which we must deal with if we are EVER to be effective. (Go ahead, some of you immediately will want to pounce on me for saying that!)

I’ve said my piece on this. I hope a few will repost this around. No doubt some of you will tear it and me apart too. Ok. Fine. Let your arguments be heard. We need more people speaking up, not just the same ol’ ones. And hopefully we will find a new, reasoned, kind-hearted but steel-minded person out there who can lead this movement to a new day of effectiveness.

    God bless America,
    David Marlett
