A former youth league sports coach and executive of the American Civil Liberties Union, who has argued against any limits on Internet access in public libraries, is facing a hearing – and the possibility of prison – for having hard-core child pornography.

Charles Rust-Tierney, 51, as WND reported earlier, was arrested in February and was indicted earlier this month on allegations of having what a U.S. magistrate described as “the most perverted and nauseating and sickening type of child pornography” she ever had seen.

Rust-Tierney, who was president of the Virginia chapter of the ACLU until 2005 and served on the group’s board until the day he was arrested, now is scheduled to appear in a court hearing on June 1 at which local reports say he is expected to plead guilty to various charges.

Authorities have alleged he used his own credit card and his own e-mail address to access and purchase an estimated $1,000 in graphic and violent child pornography during 2005 and 2006, according to Virginia’s North Country Gazette.

Magistrate Theresa Buchanan said the material included an extended video featuring the sexual torture of children, accompanied by a song by the band called Nine Inch Nails.

He’s been indicted on a count of receiving child pornography and another count of possessing child pornography, and authorities say he could face a prison sentence of 11 to 14 years on each charge.

While serving the ACLU, he argued against any restrictions on Internet access in public libraries, claiming “individuals will continue to behave responsibly and appropriately while in the library” so those facilities should provide “maximum, unrestricted access to the valuable resources of the Internet.”

Court records indicate Rust-Tierney had subscribed to several websites featuring child pornography over a period of years, covering the same time he was serving as a youth sports league coach and arguing for an open Internet.

Twice during pretrial hearings judges had denied him bond, describing the material as some of the most sickening they’d ever seen. Authorities allege he used a computer located in his 10-year-old son’s bedroom for the transactions.

Rust-Tierney was a coach in Arlington’s Little League and had children who participated in Arlington’s flag football league, according to Arlington County Parks & Recreation spokesperson Susan Kalish. She said all the group’s coaches must go through annual background checks, and Rust-Tierney had passed all previous background checks.

Some of the children he coached had written letters of support. Several dozen people appeared at a hearing for him, urging the judge to release him from jail.

He and his lawyers have declined to respond to media requests for comment.

The federal indictment alleged he “knowingly received multiple computer files that contained photo and video depictions of minor teenage and prepubescent children engaging in sexually explicit conduct.”

An anonymous chat room participant on the cannablog was distressed by the low profile in the national media over the case. When his arrested first was announced, authorities didn’t even mention either his ACLU or youth league coaching connections.

“This man was the PRESIDENT of the Virginia ACLU and while he was president, he lobbied to keep the Internet available to child pornographers via any port available, and WHILE he was president he was engaged in purchasing and subscribing to child (infant and toddler torture) pornography for his personal and sexual gratification. The ACLU. Pouring money into a machine that victimizes children. For years. And that the media is keeping this out of sight is okay with you? Wow,” he said.

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly called it a “horrifying” case. And he noted that the two “biggest left-wing outfits in the country – the New York Times and NBC News – ignored the story entirely.” CBS News, CNN and most of the big city liberal newspapers also failed to cover the Rust-Tierney arrest, Fox said.

Several area broadcast stations and newspapers actually have begun to cover the case as it appears to be heading towards a conclusion.

“That Mr. Rust-Tierney, a leading proponent of unrestricted access to the Internet, has now been arrested for receiving and possessing graphic child pornography should serve as testimony to the injudicious and baleful outgrowth of the legal challenges launched by the ACLU questioning the constitutionality of important legislation that protects children from Internet exploitation and content harmful to minors,” said a statement released by spokeswoman Cris Clapp of Enough is Enough, an organization dedicated to protecting children from the dangers on the Internet.

“When Mr. Rust-Tierney argued before the Loudoun County Library Board that unrestricted access to the resources of the Internet was essential for our children’s ability to learn and communicate, and when groups like the ACLU contend that acceptable use policies alone are capable of protecting children online, they fail to acknowledge the tragic and devastating effects to children and families of both intentional and unintentional access to online pornography,” the statement said.

The investigation that resulted in Rust-Tierney’s arrest was conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, as well as Arlington County police as part of the Northern Virginia and District of Columbia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Kingfish reports several groups today. One was a large group of 20 or so. A white truck pulled up to the fence and a group of six or eight came across. A group of three jumped the fencing saying that hey were “going to California” seemingly unaware they were already there.

Perhaps most interestingly, a group dressed in green, including green hats came across. One of the Border Patrol joked they must be the Mexican Olympic Team because he had never seen any group run so fast.

The Border Patrol thanked the various Minutemen for their good information. The Border Patrol is stretched thin and state they need “six times the personnel and a fence.”

With the talk of possible amnesty, it has gotten crazy out here.  In the past few days the human traffic has been almost non stop both day and night. I caught 4 entering my property yesterday as I was coming home from work in broad daylight. I talked to the PA’s responding to my call and was told that they had picked up another group of 6 just an hour earlier in the same place. Checking my fences, I found them breached in multiple locations with footprints everywhere. While taking out the trash after dinner I noticed more movement next to the highway. While on the phone waiting for BP dispatch I looked up on the RR tracks behind me and saw a camera truck come into view. Fantastic, rather than wait for dispatch I ran over to the truck and pointed out the location. The PA on board was currently tracking a group of 20 on the hillside across from me. Very interesting watching/listening to him guiding individual agents on the ground to the group based upon the picture on a monitor in his truck. While there with him, I was amazed at the continual broadcast on his radio of sensors being tripped at different locations on the hillsides across the valley. He told me the agents out here are making hundreds of apprehensions daily between Tecate and Campo. I witnessed 24 alone just in the couple of hours I was home out in front of my house. Let’s hope our saner thinking representatives along with us patriots can persuade the majority to make the right decisions for our country and our future.

Government of the People, by the People and for the People is only an idea whose time apparently has passed. Our elitist, out-of-touch Congress and Senate and President are hell bent on destroying the United States of America regardless of what the citizens want. We are irrelevant in the plans - just a mere annoyance.

The amnesty deal is nothing short of an outright abomination forced on our country by elitist, evil globalists feeding the voracious appetites of huge corporations and multi-millionaire politicians who would sell out our heritage, our values, the security of our families and our very childrens’ future for a buck.

We don’t need so-called comprehensive immigration reform. We need enforcement of our existing laws and closing the borders! Our national sovereignty trumps all other concerns. President Reagan and our Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves at the treasonous actions of elitists who should have been thrown out of office decades ago.

From a local government perspective, I can’t help but feel that all the enduring of boycotts and egging of my business, all the rocks thrown at my vehicle, the “racist” attacks and posters with my photo on them and all our city council’s attempts to combat illegal immigration on the homefront have all been in vain because our own government is fighting against us. The Constitution has been outrightly ignored and our hard-won Liberty is under attack.

The United States of America will cease to be a sovereign nation after next week’s affirmative vote. The elitists know their new plan is not enforceable and they don’t care. It’s not about what is good for America, but what is good for them and their big money supporters. What are you called to do on behalf of your children? on behalf of all our veterans who have fought and died for our great nation? on behalf of our brave military in harms way today? Are we going to wring our hands or are we going to act?

If there was ever a time in our history for every American to stand up and be counted - this is it. If you have never called, faxed or emailed your Senator or Congressman - DO IT NOW! No matter what your political party - if your representative has abandoned our American laws and votes for amnesty we MUST ABANDON THEM and switch to a new or better political party. WE HAVE TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION! It is too long to wait until the 2008 elections. They must be removed from office now.

As 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us: “If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”. We must be willing to bravely put on God’s armor and go to battle for our “shining city on a hill”.

President Lincoln, in dedicating the military cemetery at Gettysburg said: “that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain–that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom–and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Now its our time to stand and be counted. Apparently, my position on immigration is that we must deport all 12 million illegal aliens immediately, inasmuch as this is billed as the only alternative to immediate amnesty. The jejune fact that we “can’t deport them all” is supposed to lead ineluctably to the conclusion that we must grant amnesty to illegal aliens — and fast!

I’m astounded that debate has sunk so low that I need to type the following words, but: No law is ever enforced 100%.

We can’t catch all rapists, so why not grant amnesty to rapists? Surely no one wants thousands of rapists living in the shadows! How about discrimination laws? Insider trading laws? Do you expect Bush to round up everyone who goes over the speed limit? Of course we can’t do that. We can’t even catch all murderers. What we need is “comprehensive murder reform.” It’s not “amnesty” — we’ll ask them to pay a small fine.

If it’s “impossible” to deport illegal aliens, how did we come to have so much specific information about them? I keep hearing they are Catholic, pro-life, hardworking, just dying to become American citizens, and will take jobs other Americans won’t. Someone must have talked to them to gather all this information. Let’s find that guy — he must know where they are!

How do we even know there are 12 million of them? Why not 3 million, or 40 million? Maybe we should put the guy who counted them in charge of deporting them.

If the 12-million figure is an extrapolation based on the number of illegal immigrants in public schools or emergency rooms and well-manicured lawns in Brentwood, then shouldn’t we be looking for them at schools and hospitals and well-manicured lawns in Brentwood?

I believe that the shortage of unskilled, non-English-speaking Mexicans we experienced in the ’60s has been remedied by now.
